Services ยท Ant Control
Ants stopped at the colony, not the countertop.
Wiping up the trail kills the scouts. Baiting the colony they report to is what actually ends it, and the barrier keeps the next one from moving in.
What ant control covers
Ant control targets the colony, because the ants you see are the workers it can replace by morning. Nice Pest Company identifies the species, uses baiting that workers carry back to the nest, seals the cracks and entry points they trail through, and maintains an interior and exterior barrier every other month. Phoenix's warm climate keeps ants hunting for food and moisture year-round, so the barrier stays up year-round too.
Common ants in the Valley
Five species do most of the invading here, and these three cause the most grief, with pavement ants and harvester ants rounding out the list.
01
Carpenter ants
The big black ones, and the ones with consequences: they hollow out wood to nest in, which can mean structural damage if they're left to work.
02
Fire ants
Aggressive, painful stings, usually in lawns and landscaping. The species that makes barefoot summers a gamble.
03
Odorous house ants
The small brown kitchen invaders, named for the rotten-sweet smell when one gets crushed. Relentless trailers once they find food.
How our ant treatment works
Species first, because the wrong bait is a wasted month: what draws one ant repels another.
-
Identify the species.
The species tells us where the colony likely sits, what bait it will take, and whether wood or lawn is at risk.
-
Bait the colony.
Workers carry the bait home and share it, which is how the treatment reaches the queen and brood no spray ever touches.
-
Seal the trails.
The cracks, gaps, and entry points they're using get closed, so the route into your kitchen stops existing.
-
Hold the barrier.
Every-other-month interior and exterior treatment keeps the next colony from picking up where the last one left off.
Ant prevention tips
Ants come in looking for food and moisture, so part of what keeps them out is housekeeping the exterior barrier can't do for you. These are off Nice's own prevention list.
-
Keep food in airtight containers and wipe counters daily.
-
Rinse recyclables and seal trash cans.
-
Fix leaks and reduce standing water that ants use for moisture.
-
Trim back vegetation that touches walls and roofs.
Why a pro beats a spray bottle
Spraying a trail kills the workers on it and tells the colony nothing but to reroute. The colony that sent them, and the queen producing thousands more, never contacts a surface spray.
-
Bait matched to the species, carried back to the nest.
-
The colony treated, not the visible trail.
-
A maintained barrier instead of a weekly ant fight.

Questions? We've got answers.
Straight answers to what Valley homeowners ask us most. Still not sure about something? We're happy to talk it through.
How do I get rid of ants for good?
Eliminate the colony, then keep a barrier up. Baiting that workers carry back to the nest is what kills a colony at the source, and sealing entry points plus a maintained exterior barrier is what stops the next one. Sprays alone fail because they never reach the queen.
Why do ants come back after I spray them?
Because the spray only killed the workers you could see. The colony nearby, often thousands strong, sends replacements down a new route within days. Seeing trails again and again usually means a mature colony is established close to the house and needs professional attention.
Why do I have ants in a clean house?
Clean kitchens still have what ants want: moisture and access. Ants trail in for water around sinks, tubs, and irrigation as much as for food, especially through a Phoenix summer, and a colony under the slab or in the yard only needs one gap. Housekeeping helps; it just can't seal a house.
What attracts ants to my home?
Food left open, moisture, and touchpoints. Keep food in airtight containers, wipe up spills and crumbs, rinse recyclables, fix leaks and standing water, and trim back any vegetation touching walls or the roof, since branches work as ant highways past your foundation barrier.
